About Cap Malheureux Beach

Get ready to head to the North of the island for a little retreat at the Cap Malheureux beach!

This hidden gem is located just behind the very famous Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Chapel (the red church), known for its bright-colour scheme and eye-catching facade. It will definitely amaze you with the sandy white beach and glittering turquoise waters.

The Cap Malheureux beach, with some basaltic rocks scattered around, not only allow the visitors to have a seat and relax while enjoying the peaceful view of the lagoon but you will also enjoy the breathtaking view of the northern offshore islets Coin de Mire (Gunner’s Quoin), Ile Plate (Flat Island), Ile Ronde (Round Island), Ile aux Serpents (Serpent islet) and Ilôt Gabriel! And you can also enjoy the magnificent Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Chapel in all its glory. Be sure to capture this beautiful sight with the chapel and the beach in one shot!

The beach does also attract water sports enthusiasts for some kiteboarding and windsurfing especially during the summer months where the speed of the winds is high. You can also encounter some surfers as the diversity of the waves does attract surfers with varying skill levels. Little ones also enjoy the rock pools along the beach.

The beach being located in the village of Cap Malheureux has a lot of facilities nearby which are just a couple of minutes away, this beach will surely help your stress fade away with the serene atmosphere of the chapel and the view of the lagoon and northern islets.

Despite being a quiet and tranquil beach, it does attract a lot of locals during weekends who often stay after the service at the chapel. Hence we do recommend going to this spot during weekdays and to reach there early to get a good parking spot.
